Challenge

The customer was looking for a platform that would allow him to predict his company objectives and provide thorough reports for each one. He was requesting that goals be presented in an organized tree structure. It should also provide satisfaction levels ranging from -10 to +10 for instances related to the goal.

It includes a new HMX add-in icon on the ribbon tab and a variety of custom and built-in controls. These controls allow for the addition and modification of cognitive models while using known situational awareness principles. This ensures that the machine logic is purpose-driven and situationally sensitive, allowing for more explainable human-centric interactions.

This solution allows for creating goals that are organized in a tree structure. There can be multiple Goals, arranged in a hierarchy (a tree structure, like folders in Mac OS Finder window or Windows Explorer) of Goals and subgoals.

Goals provide a specified satisfaction value of +10 for completely satisfied or -10 for extreme jeopardy compared to an aggregate impact value calculated from one or more situations associated with a Goal.

Each situation is assessed for its impact on the associated goal, contributing to its satisfaction score.

Multiple situations can influence a single goal, with their impacts summed for an overall satisfaction value.

To create or modify a Cognitive Map containing Goals and Situations, navigate to the next panel of the CRex-Lite Add-In. Click the Goals button located at the panel's top to access the Goal and Situation specification area.

Within this panel, users can create or modify a Cognitive Map, complete with Goals and Situations. In Phase 1, the dropdown data for Situations can be used as placeholder information.

Features in the Solution

Organize the Data:

You can use any Excel data, organized in tables. Select tabular data and insert Excel tables. Each table is a Key Entity in your analysis. They are what you’re monitoring to achieve your goals. For example, taxpayers, customer orders, or procurement awards.
Create a Cognitive Map

Click + to build your own Cognitive Map or select the Cognitive Map Examples icon and choose from the Add-in Library. A Cognitive Map contains the goals you wish to achieve, and the situations that impact them.
Create Goals and Situations

Implementation of Cognitive Map as a tree view of your Goals and the important Situations that impact each Goal.
-Goals are objectives you want to achieve, like ensuring customer satisfaction, procurement integrity, or maximum ROI.
-Situations are conditions that impact the achievement of your goals, like compliance “red flags”, or today’s stock prices & market conditions.
-Goal Impact measures the favorable or negative impact of a situation when it is present.
Run and View the Situation Report (SitRep)

After running a Simulation, you can generate a Situation Report for your data. The SitRep tells you which Situations are present with risk (negative Goal Impact) and which are present with positive Goal Impact.
- At the top of the Add-in click the Reports button to move to the Reports Generation pane. Select a Scenario from the drop-down list and click Run to generate the Situation Report.
- Each of the Situations in the SitRep is hyperlinked to a Formula Explanation display that provides you with a natural language explanation describing how the Situation is Assessed.
Perform What-if Simulations

Now that you have entered Excel data tables and have a Cognitive Map of Goals and Situations with Assessors, you can run what-if simulations to see what situations are present and how they impact Goal achievement.
Enter Situation Assessors

Define how you assess whether a situation is present, based on your data, by entering an Excel formula for each Situation Assessor.
- A Situation assessor evaluates the presence of a Situation.
- Build your formula in chunks, connected by AND or OR.
- Use the AND/OR drop-down to build the complete formula.
